Kebbi Infrastructure Projects Transforming Lives, Economy — Works Commissioner

The Kebbi State Government says the ongoing infrastructural projects executed under the administration of Governor Nasir Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, are delivering measurable social and economic benefits across the state.

 

The State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Umar Faruk Muslim, stated this during an inter-ministerial press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Culture in Birnin Kebbi.

 

Engineer Umar Faruk Muslim said the administration’s developmental projects were strategically sited, visible to the people, measurable in value and widely acknowledged for their impact on the lives of citizens.

 

According to him, one of the major achievements of the administration was the rehabilitation of the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, including the construction of a fuel dump and upgrade of terminal facilities.

 

He explained that the airport became operational again in 2024 after years of inactivity, leading to its selection by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, for the inaugural 2024 Hajj airlift from Kebbi State.

 

The commissioner noted that the development not only eased Hajj operations for pilgrims but also improved the state’s profile in the aviation sector.

 

Engineer Umar Faruk Muslim also highlighted the rehabilitation of about 30 kilometres of roads within Birnin Kebbi metropolis, including Sultan Abubakar Road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Emir Haruna Rashid Road, DFFRI to Bulasa Welcome Gate, and Rima Roundabout to Zauro Welcome Gate.

 

He said the projects, which featured asphalt surfacing, dual carriageways, multiple lanes and streetlights, had improved transportation and enhanced the aesthetic outlook of the state capital.

 

The commissioner further disclosed that the administration completed the ultra-modern state secretariat complex in Birnin Kebbi after more than a decade of abandonment.

 

According to him, the complex now accommodates workers from 27 ministries and departments, thereby improving administrative efficiency, centralizing government operations and creating a more conducive working environment.

 

Engineer Umar Faruk Muslim also identified the reconstruction of the 87-kilometre Koko-Mahuta-Dabai road linking parts of the southern senatorial district to Birnin Kebbi as another landmark achievement of the present administration.

 

He said the project, executed at the cost of sixty-four billion naira, had boosted agricultural activities, improved access to markets, enhanced transportation and strengthened trade with neighbouring countries including Benin Republic and Niger.

 

The commissioner added that township road projects in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Yauri and Jega had made the towns more investment-friendly while promoting urban beautification.

 

He further explained that the reconstruction of the state central motor park, equipped with modern facilities including spacious parking areas, shops, mini hotels and passenger waiting galleries, was aimed at improving commuter comfort and welfare.

 

Engineer Umar Faruk Muslim maintained that the projects had continued to stimulate economic growth, improve connectivity and promote unity and inclusion across Kebbi State.
