The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction of three newly passed-out military recruits along the Kwanan Mayanchi–Gurusu axis of Zamfara State in July this year.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi. He said the arrests were made during a targeted operation based on credible intelligence.
According to the statement, the suspects, Abubakar Mallan Abubakar of Gargam Village, Bagega District in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and Usman Muhammadu of Ajera, Ilorin in Kwara State, were apprehended on the 1st of August, 2026, at about 6:15 a.m.
SP Bashir Usman explained that preliminary investigation led to useful disclosures by one of the suspects regarding the abduction of the three military recruits.
He said one of the victims was identified as Kabiru Hassan of Ribah in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while the other two victims are from Zuru Local Government Area. He added that all the victims have since regained their freedom.
The Police Public Relations Officer further stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation with a view to uncovering other persons connected with the crime.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Umar M. Hadejia, has commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to identifying, arresting and prosecuting all those linked to the abduction.
