The Kebbi State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a statement credited to the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kebbi State Branch, alleging that nine local government areas in the state are ungovernable and calling for a boycott of courts.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 6, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the Command described the claim as “grossly irresponsible,” stressing that no part of Kebbi State is ungovernable or inaccessible to law enforcement or judicial authorities.
Clarifying the circumstances surrounding the recent abduction of a legal practitioner, Barrister Isiaku Danjuma, the Command explained that the incident occurred in Ibeto, Niger State — not within Kebbi. According to the police, the victim, who hails from Ibeto but practices in Kebbi, had travelled from Niger to Abuja for an event and was kidnapped upon returning to his hometown.
“The Command wishes to clarify that the abduction took place in Ibeto, Niger State, outside the jurisdiction of Kebbi State,” the statement said. “It is therefore misleading to link the unfortunate incident to the security situation in Kebbi.”
While expressing concern over the incident, the Police Command cautioned against issuing unverified or inflammatory statements that could cause panic, embolden criminals, or undermine ongoing security operations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, assured residents that Kebbi remains safe and secure, urging citizens to continue their lawful activities without fear. He also called on the public to support the police with credible information that could aid in combating crime.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property, safeguarding public peace, and ensuring that criminals—wherever they operate—are apprehended and brought to justice,” the statement added.
The police further appealed to professional bodies, community leaders, and stakeholders to engage constructively and collaborate with security agencies in maintaining peace and order.
The Command also used the opportunity to call on the abductors of Barrister Isiaku Danjuma to release him immediately, unconditionally, and unharmed.
