Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has commissioned a newly constructed ultra-modern vegetables market in Birnin Kebbi, aimed at improving trading activities and boosting the welfare of market operators.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Governor Idris said the project was initiated to fulfil a promise made to traders and residents who had long appealed for government intervention over the poor condition of the former market site.
He explained that the previous market environment was unsuitable for business activities, stressing that the reconstruction was designed to provide traders with a safer, cleaner and more organised place to conduct business.
The governor noted that the modern facility would particularly benefit vegetable sellers and other food vendors by offering secure stalls and improved storage spaces to help protect goods from damage and disruption.
Governor Idris added that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots economic activities and improving the living standards of citizens through people-oriented programmes.
He thanked God for the successful completion of the market and formally declared it open for public use.
In a remark, Chairman of Kayan Gwari Market, Umarun Basiru, commended the governor for fulfilling his promise to traders, describing the project as a major economic boost for market operators and the state at large.
He expressed optimism that the new market would improve business activities and enhance revenue generation in Kebbi State.
