NLC Extends Solidarity to Kebbi Govt Over Schoolgirls Abduction

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed solidarity with the government and people of Kebbi State following the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, led a delegation of labour leaders on a sympathy visit to Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, where he condemned the incident, describing it as a deliberate attempt to undermine the state’s progress.

Comrade Ajaero commended Governor Idris for his resilience and urged him not to be distracted by the tragic development, assuring that the labour movement stands firmly with the state government. He expressed optimism that Kebbi would emerge as a model of development in the next four years despite current challenges.

He further pledged that the labour movement would continue to pray for the safe return of the abducted girls and for lasting peace in the state. Ajaero disclosed that the NLC would soon issue a policy statement on securing vulnerable communities and cautioned against politicising security matters.

In his response, Governor Nasir Idris thanked the labour leaders for their support, describing the visit as a major confidence booster for the government and citizens. He expressed concern over the withdrawal of security personnel from the affected school at about 3:00 a.m., barely 45 minutes before the abduction occurred. The governor called on the military to conduct a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal.

Governor Idris also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the swift measures taken to ensure the safe rescue of the schoolgirls, assuring that both state and federal authorities are working tirelessly to bring the children home.

He called on the people of Kebbi State to intensify prayers for peace, stability, and the protection of all communities across the country.
