Sultan Declares Saturday First of Jumada Assaniya

The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, in conjunction with the National Moonsighting Committee, has announced that Saturday, 22nd November 2025, will mark the beginning of Jumada Assaniya 1447 AH.

 

In a statement issued on Thursday, 20th November 2025, the Committee disclosed that no moonsighting reports were received from any of the various committees across the country confirming the sighting of the crescent of Jumada Assaniya 1447 AH. As a result, Friday, 21st November 2025, will be observed as the 30th day of Jumadal Ula 1447 AH.

 

According to the statement, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), accepted the Committee’s findings and approved the declaration of Saturday as the first day of the new Islamic month.

 

Signed by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Waziri of Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, the release urged the Muslim community across Nigeria to take note of the official commencement of the new month.
