The newly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Kabiru Turaki, says the era of impunity and disregard for the will of the people within the party has come to an end.
Dr. Turaki made the declaration in his acceptance speech shortly after being announced winner at the 2025 elective National Convention of the PDP, held on Saturday in Ibadan.
The new chairman polled 1,516 votes to defeat his closest rival, Garuba Lado, who scored 41 votes.
Addressing delegates, Dr. Turaki assured party members and Nigerians that the new leadership would not betray the trust reposed in them. He pledged that the executives would conduct the party’s affairs with sincerity and dedication.
According to him, the PDP under his watch will uphold fairness, equity, and justice, while ensuring that the wishes of Nigerians form the basis of its decisions.
He noted that the party is at a critical stage, but expressed confidence in the capacity of the new National Working Committee to tackle existing challenges. Dr. Turaki added that a reconciliation process would soon begin to engage members with genuine grievances, with the aim of strengthening the party and safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy from what he described as “imminent collapse.”
Dr. Kabiru Turaki is expected to assume office immediately alongside other elected national officers.
