Police Arrest Suspected Bandit in Kebbi, Recover Guns

The Kebbi State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected bandit and the recovery of two locally made firearms and four cartridges during an operation in Bagudo Local Government Area.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Buba Garba of Takalafiya village in Suru Local Government Area, was apprehended on November 9, 2025, by operatives of the Illo Division acting on credible intelligence.

The statement explained that the Divisional Police Officer, Illo, led a combined team of policemen and local vigilantes to Tungar Gwani village in Illo district, where Garba was sighted and suspected of involvement in criminal activities.

“On the process of arresting him, the suspect used a knife and stabbed a member of the local vigilante group on his buttocks and left hand, inflicting serious injuries. The injured vigilante is currently responding to treatment at a medical facility,” the statement read.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally made gun (Wagila type), one local barrel pistol, and four cartridges.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO Illo and his team for their prompt and intelligence-driven policing strategy, describing it as a demonstration of professionalism and dedication.

He further directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for a comprehensive investigation aimed at uncovering the suspect’s network and apprehending other members of the gang.

CP Sani urged residents of the state to continue to support security agencies by providing timely and accurate information that could help in combating crime and ensuring public safety.

The police assured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and security across Kebbi State.
