The Kebbi State Police Command, in collaboration with the Military and other security agencies, has foiled an attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits and neutralised one of the suspects in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the operation was carried out in line with the Command’s proactive policing strategy aimed at curbing criminal activities across Kebbi State.
The statement explained that the suspected bandits had earlier invaded Tungan Babu Lada village, where they shot and killed a thirty-five-year-old man, Usman Ferungu, before attempting to escape with rustled cattle.
It added that a joint security team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kangiwa Division swiftly went in pursuit of the fleeing suspects and intercepted them at Garin Mayo village, where a gun duel ensued.
During the exchange of fire, one of the suspected bandits was neutralised, while four motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals were recovered by the security operatives.
The Command has reassured residents that aggressive patrols and intelligence-led operations will continue to deny criminals freedom of action, while urging members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance public safety across the state.
