The Federal Government has intensified efforts toward the speedy completion of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano expressway, with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, and the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, meeting on modalities to fast-track the project’s delivery.
The high-level meeting, held on Friday at the Ministry of Works headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, also had in attendance representatives of Messrs Infiouest International Limited, the contractor handling sections of the project.
Speaking after the meeting, Umahi reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration to ensuring timely completion of the project, describing it as a critical national infrastructure linking several regions of the country.
> “We have been monitoring this project almost every week. The contractor handling lots 1 and 2 has been directed to scale up activities and increase the number of work zones between Jere and Kaduna,” the Minister stated.
“Lot 1 covers 118 kilometres at a cost of ₦252 billion, while Lot 2 spans 164 kilometres and costs ₦502 billion, bringing the total cost of the project to ₦754 billion. The President is very concerned about getting this project done, using the same standard as the coastal highway. Our brothers and sisters in the North will never forget this demonstration of his love and commitment to national development.”
Umahi directed Infiouest International Limited to deploy work on four sections simultaneously and instructed the Engineer’s Representative to relocate to Kaduna to ensure close supervision and daily reporting on project progress.
Governor Uba Sani, in his remarks, expressed satisfaction with the deliberations and praised the Federal Government’s renewed focus on infrastructure. He described the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway as a vital transport and economic corridor that links about 12 states across the North-West, North-Central, and North-East regions.
> “This is one of the most important roads in Nigeria, connecting key economic zones. I have no doubt that in the next two weeks, we will begin to see visible milestones on the project,” the Governor said.
He also commended Senator Umahi’s professionalism and commitment, describing him as “a rare gem in public service.”
In his response, the Managing Director of Infiouest International Limited, Mr. Joseph Abou Jaounde, pledged the company’s readiness to meet the Minister’s directive.
> “We have faced some challenges, but within the next two weeks, we will intensify work to ensure all sections between Zuba and Kaduna are connected and delivered on time, with the required quality,” he assured.
The meeting underscored the synergy between the Federal Ministry of Works and the Kaduna State Government toward delivering on one of the country’s most strategic road infrastructure projects.
