ADC Denies Zoning Promise, Dismisses Tanko’s Allegations

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated that it has not taken any position regarding the zoning of its presidential ticket.

This clarification was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who dismissed recent statements by the National Coordinator of the Obidients Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, as false and misleading, that ADC failed to honour a promise to zone its presidential ticket to the South.

Speaking on the matter, Abdullahi emphasized that the ADC has made no such commitments to any coalition member, insisting that ADC leaders have not discussed zoning.

He described Tanko’s remarks as “highly divisive and destabilising,” adding that they do not reflect the position of the party or of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

He further asserted that while the ADC remains open to negotiations and concessions as part of its inclusive political strategy, it cannot condone inflammatory comments from individuals who lack an understanding of its internal processes.

This controversy follows a high-level ADC caucus meeting held last week, where party leaders resolved that all key members must demonstrate full commitment by resigning from their current political affiliations and joining the ADC officially.

Attendees at the meeting included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Notably absent from the gathering was Peter Obi, who remains a member of the Labour Party.
