Kano Task Force Arrests 78 in Drug, Thuggery Crackdown

In a four-day joint operation to combat drug abuse and street violence, the Kano State Joint Task Force for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 78 suspects across major hotspots in the state.

in a media statement signed by the public relations officer of NDLEA Command in Kano Sadiq Mohammad Maigatari ,said the task force worked in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Police Force.

The operation targeted notorious areas for criminal activity, including Mariri Yan’itace, Fagge, Badawa, Masallacin Idi, and Kofar Mata. Other locations such as Rumfa College, Dan’agundi Graveyard, and Kofar Wambai were also raided. Officials confirmed that 60 of those arrested were directly linked to drug-related offenses or acts of thuggery.

The Statement explained that a range of illicit substances was recovered during the sweep, including cannabis sativa, Diazepam, Exol-5, Pregabalin, rubber solution, and a local street mixture known as “Suck and Die.” Authorities said the seizures reflect evolving drug trends among Kano’s youth.

Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, who led the operation, said the government remains committed to eliminating drug abuse and youth violence. “We will continue working to ensure those involved are brought to justice while also addressing the root causes through rehabilitation and education,”

NDLEA Commander ACGN A.I. Ahmad commended the coordinated effort and urged the public to support ongoing enforcement and rehabilitation efforts.

He emphasized the importance of community involvement in securing a safer, drug-free Kano State.
