The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) has conducted the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for blind candidates and others with special needs as part of efforts to promote inclusiveness in tertiary education.

The examination was held at the Federal University Birnin Kebbi with candidates drawn from Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States and part of Niger State, coordinated by JEOG under the supervision of the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

A total of fifteen candidates participated in the exercise, which was conducted in strict compliance with JAMB’s examination guidelines, underscoring the Board’s commitment to equal opportunities for all.

During an inspection of the centre, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Professor Mohammed Zayyanu Umar, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Aliyu Abdullahi Turaki, commended JAMB for the initiative, describing it as a major step towards advancing inclusive education in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor also expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the candidates and encouraged them to remain focused and work hard to achieve success, assuring them that the university remains open to admitting qualified candidates.

Earlier, the JEOG Coordinator for the Kebbi Centre, Professor Asabe Kabiru Usman, said the initiative was designed to provide a level playing field for candidates with visual impairment and other special needs.

She explained that candidates were provided with necessary support, including assistive technologies and trained personnel, to enable them to sit for the examination with ease, adding that accommodation and transportation were also arranged for them.
